Why not be a tourist in your own country? I’m certain there are a lot of beautiful or amazing things to do there that you haven’t done yet. I wrote down six things I wanted to do in the Netherlands and when I posted this list, I almost immediately came up with some other new things I haven’t done before. Time for a second list!

Cheese museum

I was scrolling through instagram when I found a random picture of someone with a lot of pumpkins displayed in the background. Don’t ask me how, but at first I thought it was cheese. Maybe because I really love cheese and I was hungry, I don’t know. Anyway, it got me thinking about cheese. And since the Netherlands is famous for this product, I wondered if there was a cheese museum. Turns out, there is! Weirdly enough, it’s not in Gouda, which is where I thought it would be, but in Alkmaar. Needless to say, I need to go there

Visit Valkenburg

Valkenburg is a little city in Limburg, in the south of our country. You can see the ruins of a castle, there are caverns and also there is a huge wellness center. I’ve never been there, but it’s definitely on my list!

Moco Museum

In my last post I mentioned that I’ve never visited the Rijksmuseum. This one is really close to it, but also one I’ve never visited. It’s a museum of modern art and though I’m usually not such a big fan of modern art, I’ve seen pictures of the expositions in this museum (Kusama, Arsham, Banksy and Lichtenstein) and it looks really awesome, so I want to go here as well. Maybe I’ll combine it with the Rijksmuseum.

Visit ‘Thorn’

Thorn, (apparently) also known as ‘the white town’ is a little city that’s also in Limburg. It’s a cosy little city with white chalked houses and a historic citycenter. I’ve never heard of it until recent, when a colleague of mine went on vacation there.

‘Teuten & Toeren’

Yeah, I can’t really translate that… I just discovered this, it’s an arrangement in Gelderland where you rent an oldtimer (fiat 500, BMW Cabrio or a mini cooper), you get a picknick basket with lunch and some maps to view the beautiful landscape where you can find the beauty this country has to offer, and find a romantic spot to have your picknick. It sounds lovely and I really want to do this sometime.
Side note: I looked it up and it turns out that I have to wait almost a year to be able to actually do this, because you have to be 25 years of age to be able to book, and I’m only 24. Sad face. But I guess I know what I want to do on my birthday next year!

Visit all the cat cafés

Cat Cafés are hip and happening right now. So far, I have been to two: one in Amsterdam and one in Leeds. And I absolutely love them. I’d like to do a blogpost about all the cat cafés in the Netherlands, so time to visis some more. Beside from Amsterdam, this country has cat cafés in Nijmegen, Den Bosch, Rotterdam, Leeuwarden, Goes and two in Groningen.
