It’s been a tradition of ours for a couple of years now, to go Christmas shopping in our favourite city in the Netherlands, which is: Utrecht! Utrecht has all the charm that Amsterdam has but it is quieter and cleaner. There are less tourists, less cyclists and it just feels safe and homey. Maybe that’s because I did study here for three years and I’ve even lived in the city for a while. It will always be my home. And with the holidays approaching, it was time to pay the city another visit to get some fun and original presents!

Citytrip: Köln

Though The Netherlands is a small country with both Belgium and Germany at it’s borders, I’ve never been to the latter. Actually, that’s not true. I know my parents and my sister and I went on a trip to Germany once. I was too young to remember any of it, but I do remember my mum complaining about there not being a television in the house or cabin that we rented.

Last year, boyfriend and I moved to another town that was even closer to the border. It takes less time to get to Germany than it takes to go to my parents in law (who actually live in the Netherlands as well). At Christmas we went shopping for presents at Kleve, which was not all that exciting, except for that I found a new sense of freedom because I was driving myself. When I got my licence about 5 years ago, I told myself I could go ANYWHERE now, though I never actually did. But it felt so cool to actually cross the border into another country. I could go anywhere. I could drive further, to Switzerland or Spain, or maybe even Russia. Last week, we crossed the border again, this time to see Köln and the Eifel.

A rainy day in Dublin

On our first two days in Dublin, the weather was incredible. The third day, not so much. But we didn’t mind. It rains a lot in Ireland (as it does in the Netherlands, by the way), it’s just part of the experience. And our third day was as amazing as the first two, if not better.

Dublin is such an amazing city. On our first day, we saw the Garden of Remembrance, went to the Dublin writer’s museum, bought some books at Chapters, had tea at the Tea Garden and had the best fish and chips of the city. Now, time for a little overview on our second day there!

Hi, how are ya? Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! Last year we visited a few places in Ireland and it was absolutely dreamy! We started off in Dublin, where we stayed a couple of days. It is such a lovely city and already I am dreaming to go back. The city is small but oh so lovely, with interesting museums and beautiful architecture. What would be a better time to show you some pictures of Dublin than on Saint Paddy’s?
