Nature’s way to cheer me up

DSC07227Nature always finds a way to make me feel better. We live closely to the Veluwe, a beautiful piece of nature that can be found in the Netherlands. There’s a lush forest, some lakes and according to wikipedia, europe’s largest sand drifts. It offers some peace and quiet. The first time we went there, I was feeling down. I didn’t want to do anything. Boyfriend suggested we go to the Veluwe and bring our instruments. We had a lovely time, me playing the ukulele and him playing his ocarina. Such an amazing place to relax and not think about anything. Now, the Veluwe feels like my go to place whenever things get rough.

A couple of weeks ago, I had a little accident. I fell of my bicycle and I sprained my wrist. I felt miserable for the following days. I couldn’t do anything else besides lying on the coach all day and watch Netflix. Anway, when I was feeling a little bit better, we decided to visit the Veluwe again. It was the perfect time for a visit, because the heath was in full bloom. Lush fields of purple were to be seen everywhere and it was really pretty! The perfect way to cheer me up.

A trip to little Venice

DSC07079A while back, I discovered a little town called Giethoorn, also known as Little Venice or Dutch Venice. I never heard of it, but when I saw some pictures, I was sold. The place looked mesmerizing and I really wanted to go there. And just last month, we finally did!

A trip down memory lane in an abandoned theme park

naamloosAs a child, I loved going to themeparks. Actually, I still do, but this is a trip down memory lane, so that doesn’t really matter right now. We’ve been to the Efteling a lot, but another theme park we often went to, mostly on schooltrips, was Het Land van Ooit, which roughly translates as ‘The land of Ever’. Which is super ironic, because it’s completely empty now. A wasteland. The park went bankrupt a couple years ago. I hadn’t really thought about it anymore, but recently I came across an article that said the park was now open to visitors. Naturally, I couldn’t wait to go!

Amsterdam: Rijksmuseum and Kroketten

DSC06890I’ve written some posts about my own country, such as stories about De Efteling and the Tulip Festival, but nothing yet about our capital: Amsterdam! A few weeks back we decided to go there on my day off, to see two museums and a bit of the city.

Tiptoe through the Tulips

DSC06113The tulip season has started! One of the things the Dutch are famous for, are the tulips. And now they are in full bloom! I had never seen the tulip fields, so I decided to change that. A week ago, we finally went to see them, and they were so stunning!

Elephants and Lasagna

WhatsApp Image 2019-04-20 at 22.14.59copy.A few days ago, I discovered The Elephant Parade, because someone posted pictures of an Alice in Wonderland themed elephant that she found at Pieter Vreedeplein in Tilburg (Netherlands). I really love elephants and these statues seemed super cool, so I googled it and found that I had to go to Tilburg soon.

The Candy House of Hansel & Gretel

Yesterday it was Boyfriend’s birthday and as a surprise, I took him to the Efteling, a theme park in the Netherlands that focuses on fairy tales. When I was a kid, we went every year because this theme park is amazing and definitely a must when visiting the Netherlands!

Cat art and zebra’s

DSC05763

Your own country can be as amazing as a place far, far away. Last week I posted a list of six things that I still want to do in my own country, to visit places and museums I’ve never been before. One of the things on my list was going to Vianen and see cat art in the Stedelijk Museum.

Six things I want to do in my own country

143C112D-5A20-423D-A6E4-546813DF226A

Last week I posted something about how you can manage to travel and see the world, when you also have a (fulltime) job. One of the things I listed was that you can also travel your own country or your own neighbourhood. Find new things to explore, new restaurants or museums. You probably haven’t tried all of them yet. I figured, why not give an example and look for things in the Netherlands that I still want to do. Time for a bucketlist!
